Beyond Salvation CD 2006 (Pull the Chain / Belgium / English)
Hailing from Germany (Köln, not that far from the Belgian border) and already formed many years ago (their first studio work was released some seven years ago), World Downfall create thrash orientated brutal death coupled with the needed crustcore / grindcore background. The band’sound reminds me of Terrorizer (no real surprise with such a moniker) and Napalm Death, with a strong focus on song-writing (something you don’t always encounter with death grind crust releases) and impact. What impresses me most about this «Beyond Salvation» is the inclusion of catchy guitar lines. Don’t let me scare you with this assertion, World Downfall don’t create boring, fashionable death grind metal, the catchiness created here comes from the way the guitar patterns are played (no solo actions or foreseeable riffs). The album is very enjoyable, not only by the variety of material provided (all the songs are different from each others) but also from the general violent atmosphere created throughout the fourteen songs. I already liked the band’s previous work «Last Step Before the Fall» (see our cd reviews section) but this new work (which is by the way entirely downloadable on the band website) is a fabulous release. Impact is imminent.
